Being away. Still in the sweet phase of Teen life she went to Eagle Lake Camp in Colorado about a month ago. I am just antsy and curious to see her life here.
Seeing this sign on the way in… Not so sure how I’m supposed to feel.
I mean, is shooting an issue? (so not in the burbs anymore…)
I follow uphill to check out The Teen’s summer digs.
Aren’t these cute? Her little home. It’s like I am visiting my daughter’s first apartment.
Her little space. And that there on the floor? That would be the ground. She can definitely boast of roughin’ it.
As an official member of the crew staff, she can proudly wear this t-shirt.
Getting up at 4:30 AM in the morning she starts her kitchen crew shift at 5 AM. I just said that. The teen is getting up at 4:30. Yes I said that twice. Feeling it is noteworthy and would if I was talking about any teen (or human for that matter). She is cutting, chopping, cooking, sloshing a mop, doing dishes, and dealing with garbage. No cell, TV or computer time (read that twice for effect). And she didn’t come home screaming the first week. And still hasn’t mentioned it.
Why?
This place is something. With mentors, the crew staff, a loving crew chef, bible study leader, crew counselors and even one who officially adopted her for the summer, there are layers of care. Not only is there a spirit of affirmation for what each one is accomplishing, there is a foundation of both grace and expectation.
And to top it off, she’s in the mountains. Meeting new friends.
Proud of you My Teen. So glad to get a peek into your life serving at Camp. Miss you like only a mother can. Love you!

I’m a weepy proud old mother friend of the teen. Where did the little girl in the argyle knee highs and the hot pink shawl go? Colorado and not the bus stop, that’s where. Can’t wait to see what’s next …
Isn’t it amazing. How long will the transformation and proud servanthood last after driving up your driveway. lol… I know it is life changing and what a gift you gave the Lord to allow this treasured summer to be without the Janes of all Janes. I am so proud of her.
