Have you ever had that bag or storage item that you cannot find? You thought you maybe saw it, but now you don’t. My mind, eyes and memory have been playing tricks on me for years. Finally reaching low and deep enough behind the right shelf in our storage room I went “ah hah!”
Some stuff is just that, stuff. Easy come, easy go. But these works have a part of me in them.
Coming upstairs, I do some show-and-tell with the kids. I remember being in my art class back in high school, putting down one brush stroke at a time on the painting with wiggling feet under the table. How it was tricky for me to stay focused on one small area, needing to trust that they would all add up to the big picture.
For the collage, I recall sitting at my first apartment making tiny cuts late into the night. From one piece of manna, to a single eye; this baby took hours. Trying to let it look off and random, I loved that challenge.
Being that last week’s other basement find was mold, this was a great surprise.
And now found, I am not putting them back down there anytime soon. Seems the gold walls of my living room might be the right place… Or aqua family room? We’ll see.

What?! Are you kidding? You made this artwork??? These are genius, Em!!!!
I can’t believe the collage. So intricate and, yes, just the right amount of “off and random.” I love it. That woman’s face in the top left is gorgeous. And the landscape? You painted that? In HIGH SCHOOL? With wiggling feet… So great. So peaceful. It’s like a picture of this exact time of year.
Thank you for sharing these pieces of yourself, and congrats on the treasures found.
I’m not shocked. No, I am not. Where the heck though have you been hiding your other work? Hang these now, before you lose them!! Do you need to sign yourself up for some studio time or take one of your spaces and make it into your own studio?? I’m the queen of small spaces, need my help?
