How exciting! A moving truck in our driveway. And these people I love moving in. Having one week to prepare for their stay we hauled, and lugged, and threw, and goodwilled our way to creating some space.
I recall our first conversation: ”So-ahhh. What now – do you need to head back and get more things?”
Mom says: “No, we are here, as in – we are here to stay.” And it hit me: “Why yes, you are! Of course. Um… Welcome!”
Papa screwed in some shelves for his boxes of cereal, got his coffee station up and running and TV(s) mounted.
Mr. C loves his new buddies, Nana and as he says – Bapa. He snuggles onto their bed/couch and watches Zoo Babies and rumpuses-about in the quilts.
I’ve mentioned my Dad has some spunk in him, and apparently no issues with setting boundaries.
Nana was pretty easy to please. Sew and sip. Sew and sip. Repeat. Adorable pink fleece coats were the end result.
Things moved along pretty quickly – too quickly – as in from the original plan of a 3 month stay – sitting by the fire, hot mugs of coffee and tea, and enjoying winters beginning – to a short 5 week stay.
Just when we were starting to have some fun and before the leaves even had a chance to fall, I had to say good-bye.
Ah, shucks…
…I drooped my head a bit and sent my parents off.
Off to much bigger and better things – with greener pastures. I mean that literally.
Here’s their deluxe apartment in the woods. Moving in with my Sister Cristie (yes, another sister) they have a portion of the lower level – including a full kitchen, a sauna for the Finn in Papa, a workshop for his craftmanship, sunlit windows for the sip and sewer in Nana, and a full view of nature including the occasional deer crossing. (Oh – and an inground pool, fountain pond, screen porch…of course.)
Features that have added up to me referring to this place as The Mansion.
So although the good-bye is a bit bitter for me, it sure is sweet too.

Ok my first view of The Mansion. And, yes, it is. Wow. Looks like they have everything they need. Except Mr. C rumpusing around in the quilts. Yes, friend – both a bitter and a sweet move.
If only all parents were as fortunate as yours to have daughters opening their homes like you girls.
And can I just say – I miss you too, Nana and Papa!! Hope to visit you at The Mansion someday!
Thanks for the peek into the past few weeks. I didn’t know…we are too far away. I love Calvin with Nana and Papa…super cute.
